COMMUNIQUE ISSUED AT THE END OF THE NATIONAL EXECUTIVE MEETING OF THE ASSOCIATION OF SOUTH EAST TOWN UNIONS HELD AT ENUGU ON TUESDAY 13TH AUGUST 2019.

 

Association of South East Town Unions (ASETU) held an emergency Nat. Executive council meeting on Tuesday 13-8-19 at Enugu. The meeting was attended by all National Exco members, including State Presidents-General and BOT members.
The meeting among other issues, received reports from states on the implementation of the resolutions reached at the meeting of LGA Presidents-General held on 16-7-2019. The meeting also received report of Regional Security Committee set up at the same meeting.
The meeting deliberated on the recent murder of a Catholic priest; the shooting of the former Abia state commissioner of Information and the. Adoption of a Monarch and his wife the same day, all in Awgu LGA of Enugu state.
NEC also deliberated on the “Igbo National Summit” coming up in Owerti, I’m state on 22nd Aug 2019.
At the end of deliberations, the following resolutions were reached.
I. ASETU commends states and Town Unions who have reinforced and reinvigorated their local vigilantes and Hunters Unions for the purpose of securing their villages and forrests. ASETU calls on Governors of the South East states to assist the vigilantes and Hunters in every way possible.
I. ASETU commends South East Governors for stoutly rejecting RUGA and for the proposal to recruit forest guards, clearing of bushes along highways and granting of incentives to those who will be engaging in animal farming. We urge the Governors to partner with the Town Unions to achieve best results.
III. ASETU is particularly happy with Enugu state Governor H/E Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi for his prompt action in dealing with the recent murder of the Catholic priest and the adoption of the monarch and his wife. We also commend Abia state Governor, H/E Dr Okezie Ikpeazu for his courage in passing the Anti Open Grazing Bill for his state.
iv. ASETU strongly condemn the continued unwarranted attack of our innocent and unarmed citizns in our Homeland and hereby warn of possible reprisals.
v. ASETU urges South East Governors to put proactive measures in place to checkmate the heinous activities of these marauding fulaniee in Igbo land
vi..NEC approved the decision of ASETU to partner Alaigbo Development Foundation and other Pan Igbo groups to hold the Igbo National Summit coming up in Owerti to discuss PEACE, SECURITY AND DEVELOPMENT OF ALA IGBO.
vii. NEC also approved the participation of ASETU at the forthcoming World Igbo Congress conference/summit coming up at the end of this month.
ASETU reaffirms its unwavering commitment to the security and development of our dear Igbo land.
